FIRST RESPONDERS AND MENTAL HEALTH (Australia)

FIRST RESPONDERS AND MENTAL HEALTH (Australia)

Description

Our police, paramedics, firefighters and rescue personnel help keep our communities safe. The public perception of this population group is that they are strong and suitably trained to deal with a variety of horrific scenarios and tragedies. The reality however is very different with alarming suicide rates and a high incidence of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). What can we as helping professionals do to support their mental health?

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify stress factors impacting first responders and their families

  2. Explore formal and informal supports available to first responders and their families

  3. Identify opportunities for partnerships which enhance first responder mental health in your local community
